Learning guitar chords are an essential part in learning to play the guitar, and mastering all the different chord fingerings can take a great deal of time too. But here’s the good news, you could start playing popular songs just by learning four simple chords! Yes, and even better the chord progression of these songs stays the same through out the whole song.
Here are two songs that you can try today!
‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries
‘Zombie’ is one of the best songs from the 90’s era. The entire song cycle through the chords E minor, C, G and D. This is a perfect song for every beginner not only because the chord progression stays the same for the entire song, but the chords being use are also among the easiest for beginning guitar player. And for the strumming, it can be played with simple ‘Down Strum’ all the way through. A lot of fun to play while you’re working on your left and right hands coordination’s.
‘Last Kiss’ by Pearl Jam
Another great songs that uses four simple chords is ‘Last Kiss’ by Pearl Jam and like ‘Zombie’, this song also cycle through a set of chord sequence all the way to the end. The chords sequence are G, E minor, C and D. Again, all are “Finger Friendly” chords for beginner. For the strumming though, it sounds the best when played with a strumming pattern that uses a combination of ‘down’ and ‘up’ strums such as below:
| D D U U D U |…and repeat
D=Down strum
U=Up strum
There are a lot more songs that fall into this category(four simple chords), but the two songs above should be a good starting point to develop your skill at changing chords while strumming.
